Green Enchilada Sauce Recipe

Homemade Green Enchilada Sauce

Green Enchilada Sauce RecipeGreen enchilada sauce is a delicious combination of tomatillos, chicken broth, peppers, onion, garlic, cilantro, and seasonings. It is very fresh tasting, has good heat, a smooth texture and authentic Mexican flavors. The sauce serves as both a moisture and flavor element to enchiladas or stuffed tortillas. After the enchiladas are arranged in a baking dish and ready to be placed in the oven, the sauce is ladled over the enchiladas. As they bake, the sauce infuses every inch, seeps into the tortillas, thickens up just enough and the enchiladas are complete. As you may have guessed, enchiladas and the sauce began with the Aztecs. What was once a dish of fish or bits of meat wrapped in tortillas, fried and finished with salsa and cheese became street vendor fare in Mexico a number of years later before evolving into the mouthwatering plated dish we know today. Rather than frequenting your favorite Mexican restaurant, check out this authentic enchilada sauce recipe. The hue is lovely, the aromatics will draw you in and the taste will keep you coming back.
